2. To keep the shape of your shoes, stuff them with newspaper. Brush some Mod Podge onto one of your shoes. Concentrate on small areas at a time (Mod Podge dries quickly).
3. Tear apart small pieces of your map and place it on the freshly glued area. Continuously add more Mod Podge on the shoe to glue and seal the map pieces. Repeat this step until both shoes are covered.
4. Let the Mod Podge dry for at least an hour, then your new shoes are ready to wear! Your shoes might be a little crunchy sounding for the first few wears.

ReplyDeleteAwesome!
DeleteMandy, you are so deeyarn creative! Love this...just looking at an old pair of Vans that I cannot bring myself to dump...maybe a Hawaiian map! Love it! Thank you so much! Connie
ReplyDeleteThat would be so cool! Or even some photos of the area.
Deleterad!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteSo fun! I love love them!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI like this idea! My old vans could use a cleanup!
ReplyDeleteYeah, mine were pretty rough. This makes them look almost new.
DeleteWhat a fun idea!! I love maps!! :)
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteHow did you get the wrinkles out?
ReplyDeleteI kept slathering Mod Podge on the areas that would pucker. Stuffing the shoe with newspaper helps. I ended up with one larger wrinkle, but it's not that noticeable with all of the lines in the map.
DeleteWow I love your blog the pictures and the idea is great.
ReplyDeleteawesome

Thank you so much!!!
DeleteThis so awesome!! I love it! And it thrills the geographer inside of me to see maps being used in such a cool and stylish way :P
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
DeleteCool but is it water proof?? nice project
ReplyDeleteIf you use the Outdoor Mod Podge it should be water resistant at least.
DeleteIt doesn't look like you sealed them with anything after the mod podge. Do you wear these shoes often? Have they held up pretty well?
ReplyDeleteI used a top coat of Mod Podge to seal them. They've cracked a little from walking. I don't wear them all the time, though.
DeleteI'm sure cracking adds to the appeal though. :-D
DeleteI think it does. :)
DeleteHow big were your pieces of map? Looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteKind of depends on the area of the shoe. For the most part, I'd say smaller than a post-it note. And thanks!
Deletei have made 2 pairs of comic book mod podge shoes and helped friends make some to. every pair we have made has cracked the first time you wore them, they cracked so much we couldnt even wear them for more the a hour. have you come accross any solutions to the cracking? we loved them so much we want to fine a way to be able to wear them longer.
ReplyDeleteSomehow the toe would have to be reinforced, I think. Not totally sure what would be the best plan of action for that.
DeleteWhat a fun way to update an old pair of shoes! I love this.
